Customer Story: Qi Card’s E-commerce and 3D Secure Modernization

How Qi Card Modernized Its E-commerce and 3D Secure Infrastructure with FinOn

As Iraq's largest digital payments ecosystem, Qi Card continues to expand and modernize its technology stack to support large-scale digital commerce, regulatory compliance, and financial inclusion.

Since 2023, Qi Card has been collaborating with FinOn as one of its technology partners to enhance specific components of its e-commerce and 3D Secure infrastructure, supporting the ongoing evolution of the SuperQi ecosystem.

The collaboration focuses on strengthening Qi Card's payment capabilities while preserving its role as the architect and orchestrator of a broad ecosystem built with multiple global partners.

About Qi Card

Qi Card is a leading digital payments provider in Iraq and the operator of the SuperQi application.

The company delivers card-based and digital payment services to millions of users and a large merchant base across the country, playing a central role in the development of Iraq’s digital payments infrastructure.

Collaboration Overview

The collaboration started in 2023, when Qi Card initiated a structured assessment of its e-commerce and 3D Secure capabilities as part of a broader modernization strategy.

FinOn supported this initiative by contributing technical expertise to evaluate requirements and define a scalable roadmap aligned with Qi Card's long-term ecosystem goals.

In April 2024, Qi Card launched an upgraded e-commerce Payment Gateway supporting us-on-us 3D Secure authentication. This enabled SuperQi users to complete secure in-app card payments with a seamless user experience, fully integrated into Qi Card's digital environment.

In August 2024, Qi Card achieved 3D Secure Service Provider status with Visa and Mastercard. This milestone strengthened Qi Card's compliance posture and reinforced trust across issuers, schemes, merchants, and regulators.

To further support merchant growth, Qi Card introduced a Merchant Self-Service Portal in September 2024, allowing merchants to independently manage onboarding, configuration, and payment operations. FinOn contributed technology components used within the portal as part of Qi Card's broader platform architecture.

The collaboration expanded in February 2025 with the release of CMS integration modules, including WooCommerce, enabling faster merchant integrations.

In May 2025, Qi Card piloted native Payment SDK and 3DS SDK solutions to simplify mobile and in-app payment integration for SuperQi and its merchant ecosystem.

By October 2025, Qi Card launched an updated merchant portal built on Open APIs, consolidating multiple acquiring services into a unified and extensible architecture.

In November 2025, Qi Card further enhanced its payment gateway by enabling QR-code payments through SuperQi, expanding digital payment acceptance across online and offline use cases.

What We Have Achieved Together

Through close technical collaboration, Qi Card and FinOn delivered a series of concrete milestones supporting Qi Card's ecosystem strategy:

  • A next-generation e-commerce payment gateway integrated within Qi Card’s acquiring and gateway architecture
  • Us-on-us 3D Secure authentication seamlessly integrated into SuperQi
  • 3DS Service Provider certification in Visa and Mastercard payment schemes
  • A merchant self-service portal for fast onboarding and independent account management
  • CMS integration modules and SDKs enabling rapid connections for merchants and developers
  • A unified Open API framework connecting all acquiring and authentication services
  • QR-code payments launched to simplify consumer transactions in SuperQi

These initiatives support Qi Card's vision of a unified, flexible, and future-ready payments infrastructure designed to scale with the needs of Iraq's digital economy.

Looking Ahead

The partnership between FinOn and Qi Card continues to move forward, focused on expanding payment functionality, deepening 3D Secure innovation, and supporting the evolution of the SuperQi platform. Together, both teams look ahead to building even stronger digital commerce capabilities and setting new benchmarks for secure, accessible payments in Iraq and beyond.
